Drive-In Movies!

Under your shirt and pants you were wearing your pajamas! In that way the other kids didn't make fun of you if you were lucky enough to play on the swings or tagged along to the snack bar. But when you were settled into the car for two movies, one newsreel, a cartoon and several movie trailers off came that outer layer of clothes. "Hey Dad," I would call out, "could you open the window so that I could breath?" I always thought that breathing something other than the smoke from Lucky Strikes might be helpful later in life! The next thing you know it is morning and you are safe in your own bed. How did that happen? Another mystery of our youth!

Of course the drive-in theaters made most of their profit by selling food and drinks at the concession stand. Those were the days when they actually fried that hamburger in front of you! And if you were old enough and steady on your feet, your parents might let you carry the drinks back to the car in that flimsy cardboard box. Oh, how "big" you felt when it was a successful trip! And how upset you were if you stumbled and your PF Flyers became soaked with a combination of Coke, Pepsi and Canada Dry!

To jog your memory, we present video clips of drive-in commercials and announcements that were seen week after week at your local drive-in. Just select your clip from the list below. Enjoy!

Please come back, but don't let me find you hiding in the trunk!
